Serie A side Milan finally managed to move on from Rafael Leao late in the summer transfer window, as Galatasaray signed him. The attacker has already made his debut for the Turkish side and has now opened up about his Milan departure.
He spoke to the press ahead of the Champions League game against Sporting. He was – as it would be, asked about the Rossoneri exit and Leao didn’t back away from the topic.
He said – via TMW, pointing out at Ruben Amorim’s help in the exit from the San Siro: “There are moments in life when things have to change. 1 played for AC Milan for seven years, and I think this summer was the time for a change of scenery. I had a conversation with Amorim; I’ve always been very open.”
Leao revealed the Milan manager left a positive impact on him in a short time.
“I didn’t know him. I”ve always heard positive things from my national teammates who played with him; they’ve always told me he’s an excellent coach and a spectacular person.”
Leao made it clear that Amorim granted him the shot at leaving Milan and never caused a fuss.
“And in the short time we were together, our relationship was excellent. I told him I wanted a change of scenery and he respected my decision. l’m leaving with a smile and the feeling of duty fulfilled.”
He also expressed gratitude to Milan for helping him reach this stage of his career.
“It’s a club that has given me so much and to which I have been able to give back. Today l’m a Galatasaray player and I hope that Milan can maintain a high level and win great things.”
