Elche striker Rafa Mir publicly defended his innocence and presented himself as calm after prosecutors sought 10.5 years over an alleged aggravated sexual assault. The Instagram message came on Friday ahead of Sunday’s trip to La Cerámica to face Villarreal.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he shared an Instagram clip outlining that the investigation phase had gone well, that he is awaiting the indictment and that he is keen for a trial, which he believes will prove his innocence. Head coach Eder Sarabia also addressed the legal case and a racism row from Espanyol’s visit to Martínez Valero last Sunday, reported by Omar El Hilali, expressing belief in Mir’s version, stressing opposition to racism and noting the striker is calm and wants the process to run its course.

Mir is under investigation over the alleged rape of a young woman on the first of September 2024, when he was a Valencia player, at his home in the Torre urbanisation in Conill de Bétera.

The public prosecutor is seeking a total of 10.5 years in prison, nine for aggravated sexual assault with penetration and one and a half for injuries.
