À Punt reports that Rafa Mir will face trial on 28 May over an alleged sexual assault linked to events at his home in 2024. A decision is pending on whether the hearing will be public or behind closed doors.
The incident occurred in September 2024, hours after Valencia drew 1-1 with Villarreal at Mestalla, a game in which Mir played 21 minutes as a substitute. After visiting a nightclub in Valencia, he left with two women aged 21 and 25 and went to his home, where the alleged assault later reported by one of the women is said to have taken place.
He was arrested by the Guardia Civil and spent almost two days in custody. Released under investigation, he continued to feature for Valencia under Rubén Baraja then Carlos Corberán.
This season he has been playing for Elche, not for Valencia or Sevilla, who retain his rights. He will return to Valencia after the season to attend the hearing.
Prosecutors are seeking 10 and a half years in prison for aggravated sexual assault with carnal access and a separate count of causing injury. They also ask for a 13-year restraining order with a 500-metre exclusion zone, 7 years of supervised release, an 8-year ban from roles involving minors, and €64,000 in compensation.
Mir has consistently denied the allegations. A recent defence filing includes two previously unseen videos and seeks his acquittal.
