Rafa Silva has rejoined Benfica on a two-and-a-half-year deal after leaving Besiktas, and posted a farewell message on Instagram thanking the club’s players, staff and supporters.
The club said in a statement that the 32-year-old forward has returned to bolster Benfica’s professional squad, with the move confirmed on Thursday.
He moves for a fee of around €7.5 million and has not played since 2 November.
The immediate priority is to rebuild his physical and technical sharpness. He has an open route into Mourinho’s XI, which has long sought a winger for either flank. He can also operate behind the striker.
This season for Besiktas he has made 16 competitive appearances, 10 in the league in Türkiye, four in the Europa Conference League and two in Europa League qualifying. Across 1,360 minutes he has scored five goals and provided three assists. He is valued at €5 million.
