Transfer limbo

Leao’s future hangs in the balance, with AC Milan keen to move him on during the summer window. The winger himself went public in June with his desire to explore a new adventure, singling out the Premier League as his preferred transfer destination.

In addition to United, he has also been linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur. Nothing has yet to materialise.

United are unlikely to make any concrete moves for a left-sided attacker while Marcus Rashford remains on their books. Both United and Rashford would prefer parting ways but Michael Carrick is prepared to work with him if a solution proves elusive.

Fenerbahce appear to be making the strongest push to land Leao. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Turkish outfit’s offer was knocked back by Milan, who want more money and a permanent arrangement.

Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Leeds were presented with the chance to sign Leao. Daniel Farke’s side said no.

Leeds’ Leao position

According to Jacobs, “Rafa Leao was actually offered, believe it or not, to Leeds United along with Manchester United and Arsenal.”

“The magnitude of the deal, the finances, the appetite and all of that, it doesn’t appear that anything is going to advance.”

“My expectation at the moment is Leao might end up in Turkey.”

“But there was basically a ring-around from Leao’s agency to several Premier League clubs, and Leeds were one of them.”

Leao is currently in pre-season training with Milan, who are under the management of former United boss Ruben Amorim.

Amorim said about the Portugal international’s future, “I have the feeling that all the players are working very well. Rafa is lucky to be at a club like Milan, so he must be happy. I feel he is happy and motivated.”

United are next in action on Saturday when they face Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden.
