Rafael Leao says ‘no’ to joining Tottenham as he wants Galatasaray | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur have been showing interest in AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, according to several reports.

However, transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri says Leao has rejected the opportunity to join Spurs.

Tottenham are in the market for attacking reinforcements, and Leao was offered to them, but he has his heart set on a move to Galatasaray.

Spurs just signed Savio and are closing in on Omar Marmoush, but they could use an experienced left winger, hence the interest in Leao and Cody Gakpo.

Wilson Odobert is currently out with a long-term injury, and Mathys Tel has not particularly lit up the left flank. Leao looked a decent option to bolster the position.

The Portugal international forward wants to leave Italy after an inconsistent campaign disrupted by injuries. Playing out of position didn’t help either.

However, the 27-year-old Spurs target has only Turkey in his sights and is waiting for a move to go through.

Leao rejection might be good news for Tottenham

Tottenham may ultimately have dodged a bullet here. His performances over the past two seasons have raised questions.

He has become inconsistent, while his production has dropped drastically compared to the level he showed when he first emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting wingers.

Injuries have certainly played a part, and being deployed away from his preferred position has not helped, but those factors cannot completely excuse his decline.

There is also a bigger red flag that Spurs should consider.

If a player of Leao’s supposed calibre is available and the biggest clubs in Europe are not seriously scrambling to sign him, that should tell you something.

Tottenham need players who can raise the level of the team, not simply big names with fading reputations.

Leao could rediscover his best form elsewhere, but Spurs should be able to find a more reliable and productive option. Missing out may be a blessing in disguise.
