Barcelona Atlètic head coach Rafael Márquez was this weekend drawn on the possibility of making the step up to the first-team bench at the club this summer.
As much, of course, comes amid fresh speculation pointing towards a potential exit for current boss Xavi.
Márquez, for his part, was previously tipped to take up the reins in Catalunya’s capital earlier this year, upon Xavi announcing his intention to step down.
With the Spaniard’s place in the dugout now back up in the air once more, it has in turn come as little surprise to see his former teammate named as a potential successor on the touchline at the Camp Nou.
Speaking to the media late on Saturday night, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to Márquez himself.
In quotes gathered by Diario Sport, however, the Mexican made use of a light-hearted ‘anecdote’, to play the topic down:
“I’m going to tell an anecdote. This week I’m coming home and my wife asks me, what happened? What did they tell you? I say everything was normal.”
After adding that his full focus remains on matters with Barca Atlètic, Márquez went on to conclude:
“I don’t think about what will happen in the future because I get overwhelmed and, if I think about the past, I focus on the present.”
