Rafael Obrador 'to join' Sassuolo on loan with seven million euro option | OneFootball

Benfica left-back Rafael Obrador is set to join Sassuolo on loan, with a buy option fixed at seven million euros, after falling out of Marco Silva’s plans.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sassuolo have reached agreement with Benfica and convinced the Spain under-21 international, with the option lower than the previous clause.

Benfica, with Rui Costa seeking to maximise squad assets, are active in the market and the Spaniard is heading back to Italy.

Obrador was signed from Real Madrid a year ago for five million euros. Madrid retained 50% of any future capital gains, so in a permanent sale Benfica would receive only three and a half million euros.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Torino, delivering three assists and one goal in 17 matches. Torino showed interest in a permanent deal but did not activate a nine million euro option.

The Sassuolo switch could hand Obrador regular minutes and a platform to show why Benfica invested in him, while any eventual sale could influence squad building at the Estádio da Luz.
