Raheem Sterling is set for a new chapter after agreeing a deal to join Feyenoord for the remainder of the season, following his departure from Chelsea.
The 31-year-old attracted interest from a number of clubs after leaving Stamford Bridge and held talks with several managers before settling on a move to the Eredivisie side. Feyenoord have now confirmed the agreement, having won the race for his signature.
A key factor in Sterling’s decision was his meeting with head coach Robin van Persie. The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward is believed to have been instrumental in convincing the England international that a switch to Rotterdam was the right step.
This will be the first time Sterling has played his club football outside England. Although he was initially keen to remain in London after returning to the capital with Chelsea, the mutual termination of his contract created the opportunity for a fresh start abroad.
After considering his options carefully, Sterling has opted for a short-term stay in the Netherlands as he looks to reignite his career.
