The Levante versus Athletic Club fixture at the Ciutat de Valencia was suspended after torrential rain that began shortly before 21:00. According to as.com, players completed their warm-ups but the surface was unplayable, with AEMET's orange alert active in the province.

Valencia saw sun and cloud through the day, then around 30 minutes before the start a heavy downpour, coupled with wind, drenched the sparse crowd. The roof covers every stand, yet the sheer volume of water soaked the stadium.

The match was due to start at 21:30, but the access tunnel to the pitch was completely flooded. After a meeting, the referees, LALIGA and both clubs agreed to suspend the game. No new date has been set.

Athletic are due to face Alavés on Saturday at 16:15, while Levante visit Villarreal on Sunday at 18:30.

Athletic had planned to remain in the city overnight and return to Bilbao on Thursday. After 22:00, police instructed those sheltering inside to leave the stands.

Levante sporting director Héctor Rodas said it was not the day to take risks, and that the final decision had to wait until the scheduled start. He added that, although playing had not been impossible, at that moment it was scarcely possible even to leave the ground.
