FC Bayern are on the verge of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in sporting terms – and financially on the verge of another multi-million pound haul. Success in the top flight is once again paying off for Munich

After the convincing 6:1 first-leg victory against Atalanta Bergamo, progressing is practically a formality. By advancing to the next round, the German record champions would not only make a sporting statement, but also continue to benefit financially

An additional 12.5 million euros from the UEFA bonus pot would be available to Bayern for reaching the quarter-finals alone, bringing the total bonuses for the current Champions League season to around 68.5 million euros

However, this is by no means the end of the story, as there is also income from the so-called value bonus and from home matches in the Allianz Arena, which traditionally generate high revenues

There are already many indications that Munich will once again break the €100 million mark in total revenue from the top flight this season

Further bonuses within reach

If Vincent Kompany’s team continue their run, the revenue could rise even further, with UEFA holding out the prospect of a further €15 million for reaching the semi-finals

It gets even more lucrative in the final: the winner can look forward to 25 million euros, and even the loser of the final will receive 18.5 million euros

Given Bayern’s current form – they have won eight out of nine Champions League games this season – a deep run in the competition seems anything but unrealistic

More leeway for transfers

The financial tailwind has come at the right time for those responsible, with additional income increasing the scope for action on the transfer market and could have a decisive influence on planning for the coming summer

The Champions League millions give Munich a clear advantage over many of its competitors, particularly with regard to potential reinforcements in attack or defense

In sporting terms, the starting position is promising anyway. In addition to the Champions League, Bayern are also in a promising position in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup

The dream of winning the treble is alive – and with every further success, not only do the sporting prospects grow, but also the financial gain for the German record champions.
