kicker reports there are doubts about the future of Wolfsburg head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, and it is looking increasingly likely that he will not be in charge next season.
At the weekend, Wolfsburg lost to relegation-fighting Heidenheim 1-0 to leave them ninth in the table. Problems have seemingly been brewing in the Autostadt for a while, as the club is on a run of two wins in their last nine Bundesliga games.
Within the club, voices are continuing to be critical of the team’s performance, and the loss to Heidenheim did not help. When asked about the current situation in at the club, CEO Peter Christiansen said:
“I’ve been in this business too long to talk about such topics at this point. We are in an important and decisive phase in which we must join forces to successfully finish the season. We are working on this together, and this is the full focus of everyone on and around the team.”
Within Hasnhüttl’s contract, which is valid until 2026, there is an option to extend it by a year; however, due to the lack of commitment by Christiansen when speaking about the coach, there are suggestions within the club that a separation in the summer is likely. The former Southampton head coach has only been in charge of Wolfsburg for just over a year.
