Ramy Bensebaini has said that he worked very hard to establish himself as a regular starter at Borussia Dortmund after a difficult first season at the club.
One of the surprise packages of the season so far, Ramy Bensebaini has made the left-back spot his own and has become a vital part of the team after a disappointing debut season at the club.
The Algeria international continued his fine run of form on Saturday afternoon as he set up two of Borussia Dortmund's goals in their 4-0 win over SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Bensebaini delivered an excellent pass for Maximilian Beier's opener, before assisting Jamie Gittens for the team's fourth goal.
After the game, Bensebaini was asked about what has led to his turnaround in form this season. And the 29 year old said that it is a reward for all his hard work in recent months. "The first season was hard for me to adapt with the team, new team, new stadium, new fans. Also, I had this injury and I was out for almost six months. I worked hard 100% to be back and I’m here today," he told ESPN+.
Ramy Bensebaini already has more goal contributions this season than he managed in the entirety of last season, with one goal and three assists to his name.
Last season, he found it difficult to get going and missed a large chunk of the second half of the campaign due to injury. But now he is fully fit again and making a big impact for Borussia Dortmund in a position that has been an area of concern for quite some time.
