Rangers agree £9.5m deal to sign Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy | OneFootball

Rangers have reached an agreement to sign Venezuela international Kevin Kelsy from Portland Timbers.

According to The Athletic, Rangers will pay £9.5 million plus add-ons for the 22-year-old striker.

Kelsy will become the most expensive sale in Portland Timbers history, and the second-most expensive purchase in Rangers history after Tore Andre Flo.

He will travel to Glasgow to undergo a medical and sort out the final details before completing his move to Rangers in the coming days.

Kelsy has enjoyed a fruitful year in Portland, bagging ten goals and three assists in 23 appearances since January.

He has started to show the consistency required to make the most of his talent and undoubtedly has the ability to progress beyond the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers signed Lawrence Shankland to strengthen their forward line this summer following his exploits with Hearts. However, he has scored just once in six appearances.

The Gers have scored ten goals in six games this season, although half of that tally came in their League Cup victory over St Mirren.

They need a striker who can immediately contribute with goals, and Kelsy fits the bill.

Rangers have previously failed with moves for wingers Amario Cozier-Duberry, Faris Ghedjemis and Couhaib Driouech this summer.

They are in talks with several other targets, and will ideally make more signings before the transfer window closes on September 1.
