The Red Dragons are preparing to make a move for Sunderland shot-stopper Anthony Patterson.
Wrexham will be looking to go one step further next season and get into the promotion mix after narrowly missing out on the play-offs.
The North Welsh outfit finished seventh in the Championship last term, with a draw against Middlesbrough on the final day allowing Hull City to pip them to the sixth and last spot in the table.
While it would have been agony for Phil Parkinson to process at the time, he can feel immensely proud of what his side managed to achieve in their first term back in the second tier, and if they can improve next season, then they will certainly have a shot of gaining promotion to the top-flight.
In order to aid that bid, Wrexham will look to be busy in the summer transfer window, with the Red Dragons needing to add both depth and quality to their ranks in order to deal with yet another 46-game season slog that is heading their way.
So far, Wrexham haven’t added any fresh blood to their squad as five weeks remain before the start of the 2026-27 campaign, but one area they could bolster in the coming days is in between the sticks.
Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Wrexham are interested in an established Championship shot-stopper, who has generated interest already in this window from the likes of Rangers, as well as second tier rivals Wolves and Millwall.

As per transfer guru Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Wrexham are eyeing up a move for Sunderland shot-stopper Anthony Patterson this summer.
The 26-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall and has made 147 appearances at Championship level, is available for a move away from the Stadium of Light, and the Welsh outfit are keen on adding him to their books.
The report claims that Wrexham are keen to bring Patterson to the Racecourse Ground on either loan or even a permanent deal, with Sunderland demanding a fee of £7m for his services.
Patterson is also believed to be generating interest from his former employers in Millwall, who are interested in having him back for a second spell after his successful loan period that saw the Lions reach the play-offs last season.
However, it is stated Wrexham would be happier with a loan or a loan to buy arrangement, with the club not willing to pay all the £7m fee up front.
The asking price turned out to be a sticking point for Rangers and Wolves, but Wrexham are hopeful of negotiating a manageable deal that can see them land what would be one of the top goalkeepers in the division.

It’s hardly a surprise to see Wrexham’s first port of call during this summer transfer window to address the goalkeeping department.
It’s certainly an area that has lacked stability, with Danny Ward and Arthur Okonkwo sharing minutes over the course of last season, with the latter being dropped for the former late on in the campaign following a costly display away at Birmingham City.
Meanwhile, Okonkwo has been linked with a move to League One outfit Leicester City this summer, so Wrexham may well need another goalkeeper to bolster the ranks and compete alongside Danny Ward for a starting spot.
If Wrexham were to bring in Anthony Patterson, then he would undeniably be first choice due to his pedigree in this division.
Wrexham would have an established and proven Championship number one on their books, with their chances of success undoubtedly increasing when having such a solid man in between the sticks.
A top shot-stopper at Championship level, Patterson has proven that already when entering Millwall’s setup and cementing himself as the number one choice at the Den, while helping the club secure their place in the play-offs.
And there’s no reason why he couldn’t do the same with Wrexham, who are in desperate need of a goalkeeper they can place their trust in throughout the course of the 2026-27 campaign.
Every good team starts with having a dependable goalkeeper, and Wrexham would be getting that in abundance with the addition of Patterson.
