Rangers fans might be shocked to learn this about Youssef Chermiti

With our content earlier on how the data-driven approach at Ibrox sees Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis consigned to the bench, the predictable outcry was about Youssef Chermiti.

Fans slaughtered the article because if data kept these two out of the team, what on earth was that loser Chermiti doing there.

Answer? He isn’t.

Yes, as much as we all rage about Chermiti’s uselessness he has only started one Premiership match all season.

He has been as out of the picture domestically as Cameron and Curtis. Sorry chaps. We know that isn’t fitting your rage but hey ho.

The difference with him is in Europe – Chermiti has started up front all five of Rangers’ Europa League matches.

And guess what? He sits comfortably in the midrange of ratings there and is the highest-rated Rangers striker.

It’s not a strong pool – he scores 6.31 to put him plumb middle. 11 of 20. Danilo scores just 6.28, while Miovski is crushingly worst at 5.91.

Domestically Chermiti scores among the lower end too, but he has only started that single match in the league.

So as much as fans foam at the mouth demanding Chermiti be dropped, unfortunately, he never really started. It’s an illusion caused by a lot of starts in the UEL.

It’s in Europe he’s been the lynchpin, and curiously he’s not been horrible at that level data-wise which is why our loser managers keep picking him.

Rangers’ data-driven approach is not helping our club one bit – mince like Chermiti starting up front in Europe, doing little tangible but getting in enough ‘attributes’ to get a respectable rating.

But in the league a different story. The data from Chermiti is significantly lower so he isn’t starting matches so much.

This is why Rangers’ forward line is so poor – the data from the strikers is so bad that up front is an amalgamation of data rather than players.

And that’s why you think Chermiti is always starting.
