Rangers given green light for £4M Premier League RB

With Arsenal’s Reuell Walters turning down a new deal at the Emirates, and Rangers credited as having an interest, is the-now free agent 19-year-old right back a worthwhile target for Philippe Clement?

The Ben Johnson situation, unfortunately, is dead, after the former West Ham man signed a contract with newly-promoted Ipswich, ending that one completely, but he was of the marquee quality Ibrox Noise would have loved at Rangers.

But that wasn’t to be, and £4M-rated Walters is now completely available.

Is he worth the move?

The problem here is Walters has zero experience of senior football, simple as that. He has not played a single minute of senior football, with only youth to call upon, and while he is only 19, that’s not an ideal CV to seek.

Of course, we can say the same about Clinton Nsiala, one who’s been signed ‘for the future’ but that doesn’t help in the here and now.

The fact is Walters probably won’t take Rangers to the ‘next’ level because he’s too young and has literally no experience.

This isn’t to say he’s a poor player, he sat on Arteta’s bench in the Champions League and the Spaniard wanted him to remain in London, so he’s obviously got a bit about him.

He also had no chance of usurping Ben White any time soon so it was best for his career to move on.

And Rangers?

We just don’t know.

We don’t want to sign a whole bunch of kids, and the manager has confirmed that the youthful additions are mostly done now, so going so young isn’t helpful for the pressure of Rangers.

But then Walters from Arsenal would already know that pressure, Arsenal being almost as must-win as Rangers are.

We’re on the fence with this one.
