Rangers Make Bid For South American Striker, Club ‘Aren’t Looking To Sell’ | OneFootball

Rangers have made an offer for South American striker Kevin Kelsy, but his current club Portland Timbers ‘aren’t looking to sell’, according to American journalist Tom Bogert.

The Gers are looking to bring in another striker after Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in the weekend loss to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite having Bojan Miovski to call upon, Derek McInnes feels the need for more firepower and Rangers are looking to the MLS to deliver.

Miovski was given just 15 minutes off the bench against Jagiellonia on Thursday evening.

Rangers are keen on Portland Timbers hitman Kelsy and have tried tried their luck by lodging a bid of $10m (£7.4m).

It does not look like doing the trick though as Portland Timbers ‘aren’t looking to sell’ and Kelsy ‘isn’t pushing to leave’.

With the MLS season in full swing, losing the Venezuela international now would be far from ideal for Portland Timbers.

Timbers boss Marti Cifuentes will take comfort from the 22-year-old not eyeing the exit door, which may well mean the MLS club can keep hold of him.

Rangers are not alone in being keen on the striker though, with other clubs keeping close tabs on his situation at Portland Timbers.

Kelsy had a spell at Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk before he moved to the MLS, initially on loan at FC Cincinnati, before Portland Timbers spent $6m to sign him.

Rangers are desperate to make signings quickly as they try to get back on track following a disastrous start to the campaign.

They were knocked out of the Europa League by Jagiellonia at Ibrox on Thursday night and now face a Conference League playoff round tie.

They are set to give left-back James Penrice a medical ahead of loaning him in from AEK Athens, but the Gers need more attacking teeth.

Couhaib Driouech will add another wing option, while La Liga 2 winger Kim Min-su is on the radar, though Rangers face competition for the Girona man.

The coming weeks could decide if McInnes has the tools needed to turn things around quickly, or the season becomes something of a write-off before Christmas.
