Rangers face having their swoop for PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech hijacked as La Liga club Celta Vigo have made an approach and taken ‘pole position’.

The discussions have advanced, with Rangers now not far off PSV Eindhoven’s asking price; the Gers put €7.5m on the table, while the Dutch giants want between €8m and €8.5m.

Negotiating rather than just meeting PSV Eindhoven’s asking price could well bite Rangers though as La Liga club Celta Vigo have now burst into the race.

According to Dutch journalist Mounir Boualin, Celta Vigo have now made an official approach to PSV Eindhoven for Driouech.

It is suggested that they even now look to be in ‘pole position’ for the Moroccan winger, who could be hugely tempted by the idea of testing himself in La Liga.

Celta Vigo finished a lofty sixth in La Liga last term and believe Driouech can add more cutting edge to their attack.

The development leaves Rangers at real risk of having their swoop for the winger hijacked by the Spaniards.

Derek McInnes will need to hope that his side can agree a fee for Driouech quickly and then set about convincing the player to ignore the late approach from Celta Vigo.

Driouech has been open to playing his football at Ibrox this season and Rangers will surely still hold appeal for him.

The Gers though will need to make progress quickly if they are to still retain a realistic prospect of signing the winger, who scored twice in the Champions League league phase against Liverpool last season.

Rangers have recently made one winger signing in the shape of Daisuke Yokota, who arrived from German side Hannover for an initial €3.5m.

McInnes though wants at least one more wide reinforcement before the transfer window closes in early September.
