Rangers part ways with Russell Martin

Russell Martin has been sacked as Rangers head coach after a 1-1 draw with Falkirk left the Glasgow side stuck in the bottom half of the William Hill Premiership.

The 39-year-old’s spell in charge lasted just 123 days and 17 games, making him the shortest-serving manager in the club’s history.

Martin was handed a three-year contract in June, but a string of poor results saw patience quickly run out. He managed only one victory from seven league matches - drawing five - and oversaw just five wins in all competitions during his short stint at Ibrox.

The former Southampton boss had been under growing pressure for weeks, with criticism from fans intensifying after another lacklustre performance against Falkirk.

Following the match, police were forced to step in as angry supporters attempted to block the team bus from leaving the ground, with Martin escorted away by officers.

As the Scottish Premiership pauses for the international break, Rangers find themselves eighth in the table and already 11 points behind leaders Hearts - a disappointing start that ultimately cost Martin his job.
