Rangers Plot Late Move For This In-demand World Cup Striking Ace: Why He Would Bolster Them In Attack | OneFootball

If a recent report from the French media outlet Foot Mercato (as cited by GFFN) is true, Rangers are plotting a late move for Lenny Joseph. But they face competition for the Ferencváros centre-forward, with Belgian giants KAA Gent and Dutch heavyweights Feyenoord also keen on securing his services, according to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri.

The 25-year-old Paris-born Haitian international progressed through Paris Saint-Germain, AS Montferrand, and Le Puy’s academy ranks before breaking into the latter’s first team in the lower division of the French football pyramid. He also spent time with Boulogne’s reserves but eventually joined Metz in the summer of 2021. Second-tier outfit Grenoble tied him down a couple of years later, and he spearheaded their attack till January 2025, ahead of a high-profile transfer to the Hungarian hotshots Ferencváros.

Joseph has so far netted 26 times and laid on 11 assists in 71 appearances for the Greens across competitions. He contributed to their league and Cup triumphs, and has started the campaign brightly with 4 goals in 8 UEFA Europa League qualifiers. While the striking ace still has a couple of years left in his FTC contract, a fee of around €6m should be enough to snap him up before Monday’s deadline.

Rangers had a nightmare in Europe, losing to the Czech minnows Jablonec on tie-breakers and being eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League playoffs. Derek McInnes must now deliver in domestic competitions to silence the critics, as the management have persistently backed him en route to scripting the squad transition. Youssef Chermiti’s ACL rupture has decimated them up top, and the club are actively looking for a replacement to restore parity, despite having Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski among ‘number 9’ options.

Shankland has yet to replicate his last season’s form when McInnes was on the verge of writing history with Hearts before the heartbreak against Celtic in the Premiership showdown. Naderi has scored twice early in the campaign, but the youngster needs to be more consistent and impactful in and around the opposition box. Miovski, known for his poaching traits, has offered little in build-up play since his move from Girona last summer.

Primarily a centre-forward, Joseph can drop deep into the midfield or drift wide to create tactical overloads. His technical consistency in tight spaces might frustrate fans at times, but his acceleration and sprint speed would make him a major threat on the counter-attack.
