Rangers have confirmed the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion forward Abdallah Sima on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old spent the last campaign on loan at lowly Ligue 1 side Angers and was one of the better performers for the hugely underwhelming French club.

Sima found the back of the net six times and provided a further two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, but his contribution was not enough to help Angers avoid relegation.

After proving his credentials in the French top flight, Sima will get the chance to impress in Scotland with Rangers, who finished second in the Scottish Premiership last season.

The Senegal international becomes Rangers’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, and Sam Lammers.

Speaking after signing for the club, Sima said: “Rangers is a big club with a big history. I spoke with Michael Beale, and it was a very natural conversation.

“He told me about Rangers and about how we will be playing. I already knew a bit about how Rangers play, so when they called me, I was very honoured.”

Rangers boss Beale added: “We are delighted to have Abdallah join us for the forthcoming season.

“He is a player I’m excited to work with. He has excellent variety in his game and can fulfill a number of attacking positions in our team.”

Having lost out on the Scottish Premiership title to Celtic by seven points last season, it is no surprise Beale is on a signing spree as he hopes to close the gap with the reigning champions.

Despite already signing five players, their transfer market activity looks far from over, with the Scottish giants eyeing a move for Everton contract rebel Tom Davies.

Sima could prove a shrewd acquisition, with the Senegalese forward versatile enough to feature anywhere across the front three.

Sima has struggled to break into the Brighton first team since joining from Slavia Prague in the summer of 2021. Rangers will be his third loan stint away from the Amex Stadium, and he will hope to do enough to impress Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.
