Everton Lead Race for Rangers’ Hamza Igamane as Summer Overhaul Looms

With uncertainty surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future and a summer rebuild on the cards, Everton have turned their attention to Rangers’ prolific forward Hamza Igamane. The 22-year-old Moroccan has been lighting up both domestic and European football this season — and looks increasingly likely to become part of the next era at Goodison Park.

According to TeamTalk, Everton are “front of the queue” for Igamane’s signature and are ready to back David Moyes in what is expected to be a defining transfer window under new owners The Friedkin Group.

Igamane Impressing Across All Competitions

Signed by Rangers for just £2.5 million last summer, Igamane has been one of their standout performers, netting 14 goals across all competitions and attracting the attention of top-level scouts from England and Europe. As TeamTalk note: “Everyone has scouted Igamane this season,” including Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen and Nice.

However, it’s Everton who appear to have made the most meaningful moves so far. Sources suggest the Merseyside club are seriously considering Igamane as their next number nine, with a fee north of £20 million likely to be needed to tempt Rangers into selling.

Everton’s Need for a No.9

With Calvert-Lewin’s contract expiring in June and little progress on a new deal, Everton are preparing for a future without the England international. The loan spell of Armando Broja is also due to end, further underlining the need for reinforcements up front.

Igamane’s style offers promise: pace, intelligence, and a nose for goal — attributes Everton have sorely lacked in consistency since Calvert-Lewin’s peak in 2020–21. Yet expectations will be high. “Living up to the last striker to have left Rangers for Everton – club icon Duncan Ferguson – will be a tough ask,” the report rightly states.

New Era Under The Friedkin Group

With as many as eight senior players out of contract this summer, Everton are braced for significant changes across the squad. The Friedkin Group’s arrival signals a willingness to invest, and Moyes — expected to return in the dugout — will need fresh firepower if Everton are to steer themselves back into Premier League stability.

Landing a player like Igamane could be the start of a more aggressive, smarter recruitment strategy — one that identifies talent on the rise rather than patching holes.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Hamza Igamane looks like the real deal — young, clinical, and hungry to prove himself. For once, Everton seem to be acting with intent instead of desperation.

Yes, £20 million is a big fee, but that’s the modern market. And if we’ve learned anything from watching Rangers over the years, it’s that they know how to develop raw attacking talent. Igamane’s 14 goals across all competitions don’t just come from tap-ins — he’s got the movement, the timing, and that instinct you want in a number nine.

With Calvert-Lewin likely moving on and Broja only ever a short-term fix, this feels like a forward-thinking move — a player Everton can build around, not just plug in. And with Moyes back at the helm, you know he’ll love a hard-working striker who can graft for the team.

Igamane might not be Duncan Ferguson just yet — but who knows? Give him the right support and Goodison could have a new cult hero to roar for.
