Declan Rudd will not be moving to Rangers after Preston announced the goalkeeper has signed a new contract.

The 29-year-old stopper joined the Lancashire side permanently from Norwich City in 2017, and has now committed to the The Lilywhites until 2023.

Reacting to deal, Rudd told Preston’s official website: “It is something we have been talking about for quite a while.

“My wife and I both decided that I am happy at Preston North End and it is the perfect thing to do.”

Rangers had been monitoring Rudd’s contract situation since early on this season, but his decision to remain with the Championship side means the Gers must now look elsewhere for goalkeeping options.

The Ibrox side’s first-choice netminder, Allan McGregor, turned 38 in January, while back-ups Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick are both out of contract in June.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may now turn his attentions to St Mirren’s Václav Hladký, who will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
