Rangers booked a meeting with Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final after beating Aberdeen 2-1 after extra time.
Scorers: Jack 61′, Roofe 94′; Mliovski 41′
In this Scottish League Cup semi-final, it was a nervy affair as Rangers and Aberdeen continued their hunt for some hardware.
Rangers were the more alert side over 90 minutes, dominated possession and had more shot attempts (23) but clearly didn’t have their scoring boots on from the get go.
Fashion Sakala Jr. hit the post in the opening moments and threatened on the pitch, as did Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.
However, Aberdeen grabbed the lead through Bojan Miovski when Matthew Kennedy stripped a flat-footed Rangers defence of the ball and teed up the North Macedonian, who volleyed home.
Coming out into the second half Rangers ramped up the pressure and eventually pulled level when Kent and Morelos combined with Ryan Jack, and his deflected shot turned things 1-1.
With roughly 30 minutes to go, both teams pushed for a late winner but chances on target again were limited, much like in the first half.
Just before extra time, Aberdeen went down to 10 men as Anthony Stewart was sent off after a challenge on Sakala, which gave Rangers a significant upper hand for the next 30 minutes.
Eventually, the hero of the night was Kemar Roofe when he put the ball into the bottom corner for 2-1 and the Scottish League Cup final is set for a huge derby.
