Rangers and Aberdeen meet in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday in a crucial Matchday 31 clash as the campaign heads towards its business end.
Danny Rohl’s side sit third in the table on 60 points going into this round of fixtures. They are only three points behind leaders Hearts and one point off second-placed Celtic. So this game – and the ones that follow – could prove decisive in the title race. Rangers are also on a 13‑match unbeaten run in the league since December. They have not lost to Aberdeen in their last five meetings.
Rangers approach this contest with a familiar starting core, but Rohl still has to cope with a few absences in his squad.
Centre-back Derek Cornelius has been out since having surgery on a muscle problem in late November. Although he has stepped up his recovery with light training, he is still expected to miss out here and is not in contention to face Aberdeen.
Mohamed Diomande and Bailey Rice remain on the sidelines as well. Both midfielders are targeting returns after the upcoming international break rather than this weekend’s fixture.
Given their recent victory, Rangers are expected to stick with the same starting XI, with Youssef Chermiti likely to lead the attack once again.
Captain James Tavernier, who tops the Scottish Premiership charts for big chances created this season, will again be a key figure as he looks to influence the game in the final third and from set pieces.
Possible Rangers starting XI vs Aberdeen: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Fernandez, Rommens; Raskin, Chukwuani; Gassama, Moore; Chermiti, Naderi
The match will kick off at 5:45pm BST on Saturday, 21st March.
