Rani Khedira, 32, has chosen to play for Tunisia with the World Cup three months away, the Tunisian Football Federation said in a Facebook post, adding that the Tribunal arbitral du football had officially approved his change of sporting nationality on Wednesday.
Born in Stuttgart to a Tunisian father, the Union Berlin defensive midfielder has represented Germany at youth level but has never featured for the senior national team.
He is now eligible to take part in the 2026 World Cup for the Eagles of Carthage.
Tunisia are in Group F and will face the Netherlands, Japan and the winner of European play-off B, one of Ukraine, Sweden, Poland or Albania.
Khedira is the younger brother of former Germany international Sami Khedira, 38, who won 77 caps and scored seven goals, and was a World Cup winner in 2014.
