Raphaël Guerreiro will leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer.

FC Bayern have now confirmed that the 32-year-old will leave the reigning Bundesliga champions, ending his three-year stint at the club.

The fullback has featured 89 times for the Bavarians (across all competitions), amassing 12 goals and eight assists in that time.

Raphaël Guerreiro’s next destination could be Benfica

Christian Falk confirmed with CF Bayern Insider: “According to our information, his next club could be Benfica Lisbon.”

This follows an official announcement from sporting director Max Eberl (52): “We would like to sincerely thank Rapha for our time together: Rapha was always reliable on the pitch, and characters like him enrich every dressing room.

“The discussions with him were good, based on trust and understanding. Now we will focus together with him on our goals until the summer – together we still want to achieve a lot.”

A return to his native Portugal (Guerreiro has citizenship but was born in France) would represent a romantic end to his playing career.

Where does this leave Bayern Munich?

The loss of the Portugal international undoubtedly leaves Bayern in something of a minor pickle.

The footballer hasn’t been relied upon for a tremendous amount of minutes (908 in all competitions) this term, but his versatility has been frequently called upon.

Beyond that fact, the loss of a backup left-back, at a time when Alphonso Davies is struggling with injuries, definitely leaves FC Bayern a little vulnerable heading into the summer window.

Not to mention, the Canadian is no longer on the “no-sale” list. All conditions that may very well push the club into pursuing reinforcements on the left flank.

Givairo Read remains a top target for Bayern Munich at right-back, and it seems that Eberl and Co. will also have to set their sights on reinforcing the opposing position.
