Raphinha said in a social media post that Barcelona are not competing on equal terms after a contentious 2-1 defeat at Girona on Monday, which left Real Madrid top of La Liga, calling it complicated when rules differ whether for or against you and insisting they would still win.
The late winner at Montilivi followed what many viewed as a foul on Jules Kounde. Post-match, Hansi Flick focused on the team’s poor display as decisive rather than the officiating.
It is unclear how Barcelona will proceed after the controversy. Much of the squad messaging this week has avoided criticising the referee, in contrast to the tone after defeat to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
On Saturday the club filed a complaint over refereeing, citing perceived inconsistencies in the application of VAR and officiating criteria.
They were angered by an eight-minute delay to rule out Pau Cubarsi’s goal in the Copa del Rey semi-final, a pause that stalled momentum and preceded a difficult final half hour.
