Raphinha suffers World Cup scare, Brazil teammates 'worried' ahead of Scotland tie

Former Leeds United winger Raphinha faces an anxious wait over a suspected hamstring issue picked up in Brazil’s 3-0 win against Haiti, leaving him a doubt to face Scotland at the World Cup.

Brazil led 3-0 by half-time in Philadelphia, Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinicius Junior adding the other. Raphinha started, saw a finish ruled out for offside, then went down and departed on 39 minutes with reported hamstring tightness, replaced by Bournemouth winger Rayan. "Raphinha will be evaluated tomorrow, right now we don't know what happened," he told The Mirror.

"I put Rayan in because he showed good quality, he has a different profile from Raphinha, probably, it's small details that determine the entry of one player or another. It's all about small details."

"I think we’re all worried. We hope it’s nothing serious. I still don’t know anything, he still has to have an exam," Lucas Paqueta said.

Any muscular problem could jeopardise his World Cup, with the tournament concluding in four weeks. Earlier this year he missed almost five weeks with a hamstring strain, while a minor issue in February sidelined him for a fortnight.

Raphinha is still seeking his first World Cup goal, his early withdrawal followed a fringe outing in a 1-1 draw with Morocco. Brazil’s final group game is against Scotland late on Wednesday night, UK time, with Carlo Ancelotti expected to provide an update before then.
