Marcus Rashford joined FC Barcelona on loan from Manchester United during last summer’s transfer window, and although he is not an automatic starter for the Catalan side, he has already demonstrated his quality by contributing 10 goals and 10 assists this season.
Barcelona have the option to make the move permanent for around €30 million at the end of the season, but recent reports suggested that Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is keen to have Rashford back next season. Despite this, it appears the English winger has no intention of returning to Old Trafford.
According to The Mirror (via SPORT), Rashford is fully settled in Spain and has already informed Barcelona that he wants to remain at the club after the 2026 World Cup, for which he is expected to be called up by Thomas Tuchel.
Barcelona are reportedly satisfied with his performances, but should they choose not to exercise the purchase option, Rashford would prefer to sign with another club rather than return to Manchester United.
Rashford’s reluctance to return is linked to his loss of faith in Manchester United’s long-term projects. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013, the club has endured multiple disappointing seasons, leaving the winger disillusioned with the trajectory of his boyhood club.
Despite occasional inconsistencies and defensive shortcomings, Rashford’s current season statistics highlight his value to Barcelona. Hansi Flick expects him to step up further and fully harness his abilities to become a more influential figure for the team.
The report also indicates that Rashford would even be willing to lower his wage demands to facilitate a permanent move to Camp Nou.
Barcelona now face a decision on whether to secure a player who has already adapted to the squad and embraces life in Spain or risk losing him to another club that can meet his ambitions.
