After a series of underwhelming performances, Rangers boss Michael Beale demanded a reaction from his men against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. He dropped an array of first-team stars following a dismal Old Firm display in their backyard. But the changes did the trick as the Gers clinched a comprehensive 2-0 win thanks to an early header from Danilo and a late finish from Rabbi Matondo.

Below are the Rangers players rated in their win against St Johnstone.

Was hardly tested between the sticks with little threat from the home side high up the pitch. A rare clean sheet for the Englishman ahead of clashing heads with Real Betis in the Europa League.

James Tavernier: 8

Lively down the right with his overlapping runs and crosses. Set it up perfectly for Danilo who made no mistake to head home early into the game. Made some key tackles and recoveries to help the defence.

Connor Goldson: 8

Played plenty of passes out from the back. Dominated the aerial duels as well as made no-nonsense clearances to deal with rare attacking threats.

Ben Davies: 8

Got the nod over John Souttar to partner with Goldson in the heart of the backline. The English centre-half showed great concentration and composure while winning the ball back.

Ridvan Yilmaz: 7.5

Tried to be effective from the left with dribbles, crosses, one-twos and long balls. Needs to stay fit now to secure a more regular role in the long run.

Nicolas Raskin: 8.5

Mostly used as a double pivot deep down the midfield, a role that suits his style of play. Was spot-on with his tackles and interceptions as he often carried the ball forward to operate in the advanced areas of the pitch. Played his part in the build-up of Matondo’s goal.

John Lundstram: 8

Worked hard in midfield to break down the Saints’ moves and recover possession. His distribution and passing excellence helped the Light Blues dominate the midfield show.

Sam Lammers: 6.5

Although not his natural position, Lammers tried his best to make an impact from the right-hand flank. Played a few passes into the final third before making way for Matondo around the 73rd-minute mark.

Kemar Roofe: 7

Started as a ‘number 10’ but switched to a ‘number 9’ role following Danilo’s injury exit. Looked sharp with his movements but failed to keep his efforts on target.

Tom Lawrence: 8

Did extremely well to set it up for Matondo who beat Dimitar Mitov to find the target. Was a constant threat with his runs, link-up play and directness.

Danilo: 7.5

Headed home to earn his side an early lead but was forced to leave the field after sustaining a knock in the process.

Rangers Subs Vs St Johnstone

Abdallah Sima: 7.5

Came close to grabbing a goal on a number of occasions. Looked lethal with his runs and dribbling attempts down the flank.
