Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly hoping for a surprise turn of events despite closing in on a loan move to Napoli.
Hojlund has been frozen out of the team since the start of the 2025/26 season, with the player left out of both matchday squads against Arsenal and Fulham.
It’s believed that Hojlund was told he is facing a struggle for significant minutes this term and would be best served by leaving for a new club.
United have made additions to their attacking department this summer, signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
The three new signings are expected to be regular starters, and with Joshua Zirkzee and Chido Obi also in the mix, Hojlund could find himself slipping to the bottom of the pecking order.
Napoli appear to be making the strongest advances to snap up Hojlund before the close of the window. The reigning Serie A champions have been in talks with United and there is optimism that a deal can be struck.
It’s understood that Hojlund is poised to join Napoli on an intial loan deal, which could become permanent once certain conditions are met. These conditions are based on appearances made and Gli Azzurri’s performance in the Champions League.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Hojlund has an agreement in place with Antonio Conte’s side. It seems that it’s only a matter of time until the Dane seals a switch to the Partenopei but according to the Daily Mail, he remains “desperate” to stay at United and prove himself.
Chris Wheeler reveals, “Rasmus Hojlund move to Napoli is edging closer but Confidential has learned that the Denmark striker remains desperate to stay at United.”
“The 22-year-old’s preference is overwhelmingly to stay at United for a third season after moving from Atalanta for £72m in the summer of 2023.”
The report notes that Hojlund’s final game for United may come on Wednesday when Ruben Amorim and his players face Grimsby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup.
During his press conference, Amorim said that Hojlund is in contention to be part of the squad.
