Rasmus Hojlund explains focus shift enhanced performance for Brentford winner | OneFootball

Rasmus Hojlund spoke to reporters after scoring the winner against Brentford on Saturday and revealed a key change he made during the victory.

Manchester United secured a 2-1 win on Saturday against Brentford after going behind just before the break.

Second half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund secured an important set of three points for Erik ten Hag’s side.

The manager is facing enormous pressure at Old Trafford and the only way he can turn that around is by winning football matches, like United did yesterday with a dominating performance after the interval.

Hojlund grew into the game and looked like a proper centre-forward in the second half as he opened up his Premier League account for the season.

The Denmark international held up play brilliantly and linked with his team-mates. Perhaps a lot better than Joshua Zirkzee after the Netherlands international replaced Hojlund from the bench.

He told reporters that he tried to stop ‘fighting’ with defenders and instead getting the ball to his feet. It sounds like he had been pre-occupied with battles off the ball, which is something we’ve noticed with the former Atalanta striker in the past.

“I was trying not to fight too much with the defenders,” Hojlund told MUTV after the 2-1 win over Brentford, as per United In Focus. “I was trying to focus on getting the ball to my feet.”

The striker added: “I’m trying to bring everything I can everything I step on the pitch, here [at Old Trafford].”

Hojlund’s comments come as no surprise to us because this is an example of a young centre-forward learning his game, developing game by game.

Saturday was one to remember because Hojlund scored the important winning goal, his second of the season and first in the league.

Hojlund’s focus will shift to United’s upcoming matches against Fenerbahce and West Ham.
