With the latest breaking news on Tyneside that Brentford have rejected a £40 million bid from Newcastle for Yoane Wissa, the club are still looking to secure the services of two centre-forwards.
Having lost out on Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Benjamin Sesko, negotiations with strikers has been a hurdle for Eddie Howe and the board.
Both Delap and Pedro opting for Chelsea was disappointing but a decision one could understand, the Sesko deal on the other hand was the sore one, which could have solved the current Alexander Isak issue.
With the Swede claiming that he’ll never play for the club again and Callum Wilson now at West Ham, it’s a must that Newcastle bring in at least one number nine to lead the line.
The biggest issue at this time is who the club should make their primary target.
Wissa has been the number one over the last six weeks to replace Wilson but it’s Isak’s replacement that is causing the headache. Nicolas Jackson, Samu Aghehowa, and Gonçalo Ramos, are amongst some of the names who have been most recently put forward.
However, deals are looking unlikely for any of those three unless something drastic happens in the days ahead, whilst there is concern that at least one or two of them wouldn’t make the impact that is needed.
One name that hasn’t been mentioned is Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund.
Signed by Man U in 2023 and only scoring twenty six goals in ninety five appearances, the suggestion he could be an option may raise an eyebrow, or even gain a laughing emoji reaction. The argument for this case is the ability of Howe’s coaching and his track record when it comes to improving players.
Rasmus Hojlund arrived into the Premier League with a big reputation and predictions he may even be the next Haaland. Standing tall at six foot three, he has the right physical attributes to lead the front line and there is a player in there somewhere who can excel on the big stage.
If reports are true, Man U are willing to let the twenty two year old leave for a fee in the region of £30 million. That could be worth the gamble and he would be looking to prove something having been written off already it seems by United’s head coach Ruben Amorim. A player who is never accused of downing tools…but just not hitting the heights that was once forecasted.
Despite a potential marriage made in heaven scenario, the Danish international looks set to return to Serie A with both Napoli and AC Milan fighting for his signature.
But what a story it would be if Rasmus Hojlund scored more goals for Newcastle United, than what Benjamin Sesko tallies up for Man U this season.
