Flamengo great Raul Plassmann has defended goalkeeper Rossi amid recent criticism from supporters.
"Oh, because he makes mistakes. I made mistakes too, you will make them sooner or later. He restarts play very well. He is calm. Do not be impressed by anything. And if you are, pretend you were not, whether conceding, erring or making fantastic saves." He said this on the Basticast podcast by 365 Scores.
Plassmann is among Flamengo’s greatest keepers, the starter in the 1981 Libertadores and Club World Cup triumphs. That season is widely remembered as the club’s most successful, so his view carries weight with fans.
Rossi joined in 2023 from Boca Juniors. Before arriving in Rio de Janeiro he spent a loan spell at Al-Nassr, playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, and has since established himself as first choice.
In March he saved two penalties in a shootout against Fluminense, securing the Campeonato Carioca after a 0-0 draw, the decider finished 5-4. The final also marked Leonardo Jardim’s debut as head coach, days after Filipe Luís departed.
Flamengo face Santos on Thursday 8 October in the 30th round of the Brasileirão, kick-off 19h30 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro. The match will be broadcast on Premiere pay-per-view.
