It has appeared to be only a matter of time before Rayan Ait-Nouri was confirmed as a Manchester City player. David Ornstein and Mark Critchley had previously reported for The Athletic that Manchester City had agreed to sign the attacking left-back from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of €40 million. Furthermore, the Athletic report indicated that Ait-Nouri would sign a 5-year deal with Manchester City. Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rayan Ait-Nouri has completed his medical ahead of his move to Manchester City. All that awaits is official confirmation of Ait-Nouri’s move to Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rayan Ait-Nouri has successfully completed his medical with Manchester City today. Furthermore, Romano reports that the Algerian international is set to sign a 5-year contract with the club. Ait-Nouri will sign his City contract on Sunday per a separate report from Fabrizio Romano.
With the formalities now complete, all that awaits is official confirmation of Rayan Ait-Nouri’s move to Manchester City. That is expected to come early next week. It should also come before the deadline of the short transfer window for clubs to sign players for the FIFA Club World Cup which expires on June 10. Barring anything exceptional, Ait-Nouri should be a part of Manchester City’s squad for the tournament in the United States.
How Rayan Ait-Nouri fits into Pep Guardiola’s squad at the Club World Cup will be a real subject of interest. Finally, Pep Guardiola will have a specialist left-back at his disposal. That does offer Guardiola more options in and out of possession. On the ball, Rayan Ait-Nouri is an exceptional player. He has the ability to pick out a pass and a cross, and is blessed with exceptional technical ability.
The Algerian international can also play as an overlapping full-back or he can invert into midfield. Both of those options will appeal to Pep Guardiola. It won’t be a surprise to see him use Ait-Nouri in both roles at the Club World Cup. Playing in those two roles in the United States will also allow Ait-Nouri to get a head start on what life at Manchester City will look like. That is one positive of City playing in the tournament and signing Ait-Nouri in a timely manner.
All that awaits is official confirmation that Rayan Ait-Nouri is now a Manchester City player. With his medical complete it should only be a matter of time before Manchester City confirm the signing of the left-back that Pep Guardiola’s squad has been screaming out for.
