RB Leipzig’s search for a new head coach continues, but the Saxony club are closer to finding a successor to Marco Rose. Kicker report that the Bundesliga side are holding intensive talks with Ole Werner who has also expressed his interest in joining Leipzig.
The 37-year-old left his role at Werder Bremen a year early after announcing that he would not be extending his contract beyond 2026. That means that Leipzig would also need to find an compensation agreement with Bremen before appointing Werner.
Ole Werner’s appointment is somewhat underwhelming. More so considering that names that Leipzig had been chasing: Cesc Fabregas (who will remain at Como) and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner. Jacob Neestrup will also remain at Copenhagen which leaves few options.
One of those being Werner. But after missing out on European football completely and Benjamin Sesko, Lois Openda and Xavi Simons all likely leaving the club this summer, they’ll be undergoing a rebuild with limited funding. And Werner has shown from his time at Holstein Kiel and Werder Bremen that he can work on a limited budget.
Werner’s Bremen also finished level points with Leipzig last season and the fact that he also has Bundesliga experience over the likes of Fabregas and Neestrup makes him an interesting option.
