RB Leipzig have today confirmed the departure of Mohamed Simakan (24) to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for a reported €45m, which sees the Bundesliga club receive a substantial return after buying the French defender from Strasbourg three years ago for €15m.
Simakan made it known to club officials leading up to deadline day that he would like to leave the Bundesliga club, and he now joins Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.
On his departure, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder said: “In his three years at RB Leipzig, Mo Simakan has played his way into the hearts of the fans and always gave his all on the pitch. He’s a great guy and has always identified 100 percent with the club and city.”
Simakan played 122 games across all competitions for RB Leipzig, scoring seven and creating a further 13. Predominantly a central-defender, the Frenchman also played at right-back, and also found himself playing on the right-side of a back-three.
Knowing that Simakan wanted to leave the club, Leipzig moved quick to secure the signing of Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord on deadline day after failing to secure a move for the Dutch defender last summer.
