RB Leipzig ‘to demand’ Bundesliga win from Ole Werner against Hamburg

Sport Bild reports that RB Leipzig are demanding a win from head coach Ole Werner in this weekend’s Bundesliga match against Hamburg, with pressure rising after just three wins in eight 2026 league games put a Champions League return at risk.

Leipzig let leads slip in back-to-back league fixtures against Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, both finishing 2-2. They are fifth and chasing a top-four finish after missing out on all European football for the first time in their Bundesliga history.

A heavy summer outlay left Werner with the Bundesliga’s third most valuable squad behind Bayern Munich and Dortmund. Even so, he is averaging 1.85 points across 27 matches in all competitions. European qualification must now come via the league after a DFB-Pokal exit.

Frustration has grown within the squad, with captain David Raum unhappy about inconsistency. Werner’s defensive work, in selection and basic training, has been criticised. Failure to beat Hamburg in tomorrow’s matchday 24 finale would make it four games without a win in all competitions.

The report adds that Leipzig’s hierarchy will open serious talks about Werner’s future if the team slip again. Appointed last summer to replace Marco Rose after his spring 2025 dismissal, Werner was not the club’s first choice.
