Leicester City will sell Abdul Fatawu this summer to offset a drastic revenue hit, and widening interest could improve their negotiating position.

Sky in Germany reports that RB Leipzig have placed the 22-year-old on a shortlist of wide options and are monitoring him in case they lose a winger, with no contact so far.

Premier League attention remains, with Sunderland, Everton and Fulham among those linked, some revisiting enquiries from last summer.

A repeat of last summer’s mooted £35m fee appears unlikely now City are in League One. Even so, competition should still yield a healthy profit on the £14m paid two seasons ago.

Any move may come later in the window, with Fatawu likely to be at the World Cup in North America. He is expected to be in Ghana’s squad alongside City team-mate Jordan Ayew to face England, Croatia and Panama, with warm-ups against Mexico and Wales.

The only other City player who looks like making the tournament is Harry Souttar, whose return after 16 months to feature in the final two matches has boosted his Australia chances. He is currently at a Socceroos warm-up camp.
