RBL's 3-1 win over Union Berlin has brought us one step closer to Champions League qualification. At the same time, we are chasing another target: the Red Bulls' record Bundesliga points tally!
Ole Werner's side sit on 62 points after matchday 31. RBL now need two wins from the final three matches to surpass our current highest total.
For a bit of extra motivation – and a touch of nostalgia – let's look back on RB Leipzig's previous most successful Bundesliga seasons!

The current benchmark was set during the 2016/17 season, when the Red Bulls picked up an impressive 67 points – and in our first ever Bundesliga campaign, too. Under head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, RBL finished in second place behind only champions Bayern. What a statement!
Our debut Bundesliga season was special in so many ways. RB Leipzig went unbeaten in their first 13 matches, including a 4-0 away win at HSV, while Timo Werner bagged 21 league goals.
Peter Gulacsi, Willi Orban and Lukas Klostermann were all part of that season's side and are now in our current squad. They know what it's like to experience a record-breaking season with RBL!

The 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2022/23 campaigns were all similarly successful. The Red Bulls qualified for the Champions League in third place with 66 points on all three occasions.
In 2018/19, Ralf Rangnick became the second RBL head coach to lead his side to a Champions League spot. One of the main reasons for this was our solid backline. RB Leipzig conceded just 29 goals, the lowest total in the league.
The following season, Leipzig backed up this successful campaign with the same points total and a third Champions League qualification. The Red Bulls were top of the table at the halfway mark under the leadership of a rising star in Julian Nagelsmann. RBL finished as the league's third-top scorers with 81 goals and with the second-best defence, having let in just 37. Who doesn't remember the 8-0 win over Mainz? Timo Werner netted a hat-trick in what remains our biggest-ever Bundesliga victory.
Then, in 2022/23, Marco Rose's Red Bulls collected 66 points once again and qualified for the CL for a sixth time. Christopher Nkunku shared the Bundesliga top scorer award with Werder Bremen's Niclas Füllkrug after finding the net on 16 occasions. The cherry on top was winning a second DFB-Pokal trophy after defeating Frankfurt in the final.

The 2020/21 and 2023/24 campaigns were also unforgettable. Leipzig picked up 65 points on both occasions. In 2021, this was enough for second place, while, in 2024, the Red Bulls came fourth in the division.
The first of these seasons saw us play out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Bayern in early December. We were still very much in the title race as late as matchday 28, when we sat just five points behind FCB.
Marco Rose's RBL began the 2023/24 season with a statement 3-0 DFL-Supercup win over Bayern in Munich. Other highlights included a 6-0 victory over Köln and a 4-1 win against Dortmund later in the season. Lois Openda struck an impressive 24 times in the league as RB Leipzig finished fourth, securing a seventh Champions League campaign.
When they travel to Freiburg on 16th May (17:30 CEST), the Red Bulls could secure their eighth participation in the Champions League, as well as potentially reach a new record Bundesliga points total. What a way to mark our tenth season in the top tier that would be.
