RBS women take 2-0 win despite injury blow

Second win in second league match

FC Red Bull Salzburg Women 2-0 FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen (H/T:1-0). Goals: Wienerroither (37'), Kobler (66')

Our team won their ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga match against FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen, but lost Greta Spinn, who may have suffered a serious injury in the early stages. Katja Wienerroither and Emelie Kobler scored the goals in the 2-0 win, ensuring that Dusan Pavlovic's team will begin their four-match away tour with a perfect record.

Match summary

It took just 34 seconds for our Salzburg team – unchanged from last week – to register their first shot: Maria Plattner fired the red-and-white declaration of intent from long range. Fueled by the early loss of teammate Greta Spinn, with the midfield ace injured in a chaotic challenge on the wing and having to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, our girls pressed for the opening goal.

After captain Katja Wienerroither narrowly missed the first cross (11') and her second attempt lacked power (29'), the third time was the charm! Lena Triendl delivered a cross to Wienerroither, who slotted home to give us the lead at half-time (37').

The visitors looked lacklustre in attack for much of the game, and a Lackner header shortly after the restart was the exception. Otherwise, Dusan Pavlovic's women dominated: with a long-range effort from Grünwald and a Triendl solo run that ended with a shot hitting the side netting.

Substitute Emelie Kobler then showed more clinical finishing as our team combined well down the left flank, creating danger in the Linz area. The Linz players failed to clear the ball and had to watch as Kobler pounced from five metres out to make it 2-0 (66'). Not much else happened after that. The players were feeling the effects of the high temperatures, and the Linz side couldn't mount a comeback. This victory extends our girls' perfect start to the season.

I hope Greta's injury isn't too serious - we still need to get it checked out. The win was well-deserved. We dominated the game from the first second – in terms of running, tactics and mentality. We could have, and almost should have, scored a few more goals. Nevertheless, we've made a huge step forward in all areas compared to last week, and that's what counts!
