Read opens up on failed €28m Roma bid: ‘It could have gone either way’ | OneFootball

Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read has spoken publicly about the interest that Roma had shown in him this summer and their failed bid of €28m plus bonuses that was turned down by the Eredivisie side: ‘I don’t have to leave Feyenoord, I’m happy to be here’.

Earlier this week, Roma saw an offer for Read worth €28m plus bonuses rejected by Feyenoord, although reports in Italy have indicated that talks may reignite before the end of the summer transfer window.

Feyenoord insist that they will not sell the full-back for a fixed fee lower than €30m.

Read himself has since had an opportunity to discuss the matter in an interview with ESPN, admitting that the offer from Roma could have gone either way, but that he is still happy to be in the Netherlands and to commit himself ahead of the 2025-26 season.

“It could have gone either way,” Read told ESPN. “As I’ve said before, I didn’t have to leave Feyenoord, I’m not done learning here. I’m happy to be here.

“I still give 100%, I try to run quicker than I did the week before. I feel happy, I feel good, I feel at home here. I’m looking forward to the coming season.”

Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has also admitted that there is still a chance that Read leaves the club this summer, but praised the 20-year-old for the attitude that he has shown over the last few weeks.

“I see a very mature player who sees that there are several scenarios: The scenario where he leaves, but also the scenario that he stays at Feyenoord this season.

“You wouldn’t notice that there have been negotiations. He trains well, he’s a very positive guy.”
