Real Betis are in danger of losing some of their attacking depth, with discussions ongoing for Chimy Avila to leave the club outside of the transfer window. The Argentine forward no longer appears to be in contention for a starting spot.
Avila, 31, joined the club in the winter transfer window of 2024, and has made 41 appearances for Betis in the subsequent 18 months, registering five goals and two assists. The versatile striker signed for €4m from Osasuna, and has a deal valid until 2027.
It was reported early on Friday by Gonzalo Tortosa that Avila and Pumas were making progress on personal terms, for a late transfer deal. Matteo Moretto has added that Pumas then submitted a €2m offer for Avila, and since has updated that information to say that the two clubs are currently in talks for a loan deal with an option to buy. Depending on variables, that deal could be made permanent.

Avila arrived with plenty of expectation, after falling out of favour at Osasuna, following a generally successful spell. However some early red cards in his Betis career, set him on the back foot, and rarely has Manuel Pellegrini seen fit to give him a consistent run as a starter at the Benito Villamarin. So far this season, Avila, has made three appearances, totalling 40 minutes, all from the bench, in Betis’ four games.
Betis did bring in Antony from Manchester United late on in the transfer window, adding to their depth out wide. Los Verdiblancos currently have six specialist forwards that can play across a front three, excepting Avila, with Cucho Hernandez and Cedric Bakambu the natural centre-forwards. Giovani Lo Celso and Pablo Fornals can be used out wide too.
