Real Betis have joined the race to sign Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Stade Rennais and FC Porto are pushing for his signature, and that Betis have now entered the competition.

Mayenda is increasingly likely to leave this summer as he seeks regular senior football, which currently looks unlikely at the Stadium of Light given Brian Brobbey's exceptional recent form. Sunderland are understood to respect his wishes and would sanction a move if the terms are right.

With suitors lining up, Sunderland could make a major profit both in cash and SCR terms on the initial fee of just under £1 million paid to Sochaux in summer 2023. That deal is understood to include a number of performance clauses and a sell-on.

Stade Rennais are known to have a strong interest. Claims earlier this week that Porto were close to an agreement were played down in Portugal, though Sunderland are thought to be aware of interest from the Primeira Liga champions.

The Andalusian club, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, are understood to have a long-standing interest in the forward. Betis finished fifth in La Liga last season and will play in the Champions League league phase next season.

A loan has not been ruled out, however Mayenda is thought to prefer a permanent exit at this stage.
