Real Betis defender Chadi Riad is set to move to the Premier League to join Crystal Palace. The 20-year-old has agreed personal terms with Palace and is now waiting for the final steps to get the deal signed.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Betis will receive a €14m fee, which also includes certain bonuses that can be triggered with appearance related landmarks. Part of this sum will be owed to Barcelona, due to a sell-on clause. Riad will become Crystal Palace’s first summer signing as they look to build on their strong finish to the season under new manager Oliver Glasner.
His move to Selhurst Park will raise doubts over the future of Marc Guehi, who has also been linked with a move away from London. Riad is seen as the perfect replacement for Guehi, due to him being left-footed and being able to play out from the back comfortably.
The young centre-back, who was born in Majorca, joined Betis on a season-long loan featuring a mandatory buy clause from La Liga rivals Barcelona last summer. Since then he has played a starring role in the side that finished seventh in the league this season.
Riad made 30 appearances for his club this season, and also has two caps for Morocco.
