Eder Militao is set to enter his sixth season at Real Madrid, having first joined from FC Porto in 2019 for a fee of €50 million.
No longer the most expensive defensive signing for Los Blancos, thanks to the €58 million acquisition of Dean Huijsen this summer, the Brazilian international has endured a rough couple of years due to back-to-back ACL injuries.
However, according to AS, Militao remains central to Real Madrid’s plans for the immediate future, despite there being some uncertainty about the level at which he performs after two ACL injuries in two years.
After all, over the last two seasons, he has managed only 31 appearances: 13 in one and 18 in the other. But his return to action following the latest setback has brought a lot of positive feelings.

In the brief pre-season under Xabi Alonso so far, Militao has responded well and built on the positive impression he left at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he returned after 234 days sidelined following his second knee injury.
The 27-year-old centre-back scored a spectacular goal in a training match against Leganes, and followed it up with a headed strike in a friendly against WSG Tirol in Austria. These moments have provided a boost for both the player personally and the club.
Militao extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2028 and continues to feature in the club’s plans for the future, along with Huijsen and Raul Asencio.
Meanwhile, the Merengues do not plan to renew Antonio Rudiger or David Alaba, who each have one year left on their contracts.
