Real Madrid are preparing for life after Dani Carvajal, and the search for a new right-back is becoming one of the club’s most important discussions ahead of next season.

With Carvajal set to leave at the end of the campaign, Real Madrid know they must bring in another option for the position, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to become the club’s first-choice right-back moving forward.

According to recent reports from AS, one of the names most admired internally is Pedro Porro

The Tottenham Hotspur defender is highly appreciated because of his attacking qualities, experience, and ability to adapt immediately to elite football.

However, there is a major obstacle preventing Real Madrid from aggressively pursuing the Spanish defender.

Real Madrid unwilling to overspend on backup right-back

The club considers Porro’s price far too expensive for a player who would arrive as a backup option behind Alexander-Arnold.

Tottenham previously invested heavily to sign the defender, paying around €45 million, meaning any future transfer would likely require an even bigger fee.

At this stage, Real Madrid are not prepared to prioritise that level of spending for a secondary role. Instead, the club’s main financial focus remains elsewhere.

Exploring internal solutions

Because of that, the club is increasingly considering an internal solution for the right-back role.

Within La Fabrica, two names are attracting particular attention:, namely, Jesus Fortea and David Jimenez.

Both academy defenders are highly rated and could potentially receive opportunities with the senior squad.

Furthermore, the outlet also mentions that the free-agent market offers very few convincing alternatives, which further strengthens the possibility of promoting from within, although that decision comes with its fair share of pros and cons.

On one hand, promoting academy players offers energy, hunger, and long-term development potential.

On the other hand, relying heavily on inexperienced defenders can also become risky, especially at a club where pressure is constant, and mistakes are punished immediately.

That is why Pedro Porro remains so attractive despite the financial complications.

Still, Real Madrid appear determined not to overspend in a position they already consider covered by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
