According to Jose Felix Diaz of AS, Real Madrid’s pursuit of Manchester City and Spain superstar Rodri has gathered significant momentum after months of hesitation.

Although the club’s hierarchy had resisted the idea for almost a year, their stance has gradually changed.

What had been a firm refusal before the World Cup has evolved into what is now understood to be a clear willingness to proceed, provided the financial terms are acceptable.

Rodri, 30, has made his intentions clear and is doing everything possible to make the move happen.

Rodri Has Prioritised a Return to Spain

According to the report, Rodri has made returning to La Liga with Real Madrid his priority.

He is said to have rejected an approach from Paris Saint-Germain, as well as renewal proposals from Manchester City, where his current contract runs until 30 June 2027.

His reason has remained consistent throughout: he wants to play for Real Madrid.

At Valdebebas, club officials have also moved beyond the repeated speculation linking Rodri with the club in previous transfer windows, when no formal progress was made.

This time, the interest is described as genuine, particularly after Florentino Perez approved the operation.

A meeting scheduled for Thursday is expected to play an important role in determining whether negotiations move forward.

Agreement with player not as an issue

Personal terms with Rodri are not expected to present any major difficulties for Real Madrid.

The main challenge now lies in negotiations with Manchester City, who are naturally reluctant to lose a player who has once again demonstrated his importance at the highest level.

Following his outstanding World Cup performances, City are under no pressure to sell and are expected to negotiate firmly.

Real Madrid are hopeful of completing the transfer for a fee in the region of €40 million to €50 million.

Once wages and associated costs are included, the total investment would be expected to approach €100 million.

Midfield exit could follow

Should Rodri complete his move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid would almost certainly need to make room within Mourinho’s squad.

The arrival of another central midfielder would likely require at least one current member of the midfield to leave, with squad numbers and balance making an outgoing transfer increasingly likely if the deal is finalised.
